Sometimes I think I like particular foods not because of the item itself, but the fact that I can slather butter on it. Seriously.
Lately I have taken a sudden liking to popcorn. A few weeks ago I dug out a Whirley-Pop we got several years back but just never used, invested in some decent popcorn, and suddenly I love popcorn …well, I love popcorn with butter and sea salt. Not gobs of butter mind you, I love to cook, I love butter, but I try and keep it semi sensible.
I am pretty sure the microwave version just killed my popcorn taste buds, I probably have not wanted to eat popcorn for over a decade.
But now…..
I make popcorn….
a lot…..
Why did not someone warn me this would happen??
I am starting to wonder if its more to do with the fact that fresh made popcorn is a great receptacle for butter.
The cats fully support my habit as well. Bayou and Cosmo will even turn up their noses at pieces that don’t have a bit of butter on them.
Since I have a bad habit of always picking a bowl too small, when I stir up my freshly made popcorn, there are always pieces that fall out. The cats are usually located in strategic positions when they have heard the popper going off, knowing full well there will be pieces flying shortly.
Here is what I see when I look down at popcorn that falls. Bayou thinks he is so stealth, popping a claw into a piece and silently sliding it out like I might stop him.
He fails to realize, I am all for group enjoyment of the delight that is butter (and popcorn).

At least the cats do not drool at the sound of popping corn like two Dalmatians that I know..
