I like this video quite a bit. It shows a high energy strong willed dog, enjoying the heck out of positive training techniques. To us, they are very cute parlor tricks of sorts….fetching various useful or wanted items. They also look like techniques that could be later phased in to help out someone in need.
What does the pooch think in all of this? She is obviously enjoying her time, and on top of that, this is quite a challenge for her. Something to focus and send intensity to, a way to burn off excess energy.
For any of those concerned that treats are required forever to get these behaviors, usually over time you can phase the reward frequency down, in some cases, removed completely. If I recall, late in the video, there were two tricks between treats, which is an example of the very beginning phases of instituting variable or intermittent rewards while positive training. I have many cues/commands with my furry crew that are still solid even with several years between the last ‘reward’ given for that particular command.
I am not positive how the various soda selection is accomplished. Could be varying bins in the fridge that have been trained with the cue word being the soda name. Maybe a marker on the soda’s themselves. Or, could just be a kid inside the fridge handing out sodas <wink>.
No matter what, enjoyable clip.
