Some of the rooms around our house are off limits to the felines. For example, the guest room doors stay shut at all times. I figure if someone is brave enough to stay at our house overnight, I probably should at least offer them a hair free escape zone from the four felines.
The basement is normally off limits as well, too many odds and ends to get into, and someone (*cough*cough*Dexter*cough) decided that various objects down there could be considered litter boxes at one time. Luckily the litter box issues have been resolved (knock on wood), but we still keep the basement door shut to be careful.
Bayou and Asia think it is the greatest privilege of all to be allowed into the basement while I work out though. We have some exercise equipment down there, so when I go down for a jog, they join me, and they have a BLAST. They zoom around, climb the ceiling high shelves, dash and hide around boxes, talk to the dogs out the window, meow at me to get off the ’scary treadmill’, get into dads stuff for his hobbies, and generally act like little kids who were allowed to raid the parents closet.
Its funny how a boring unfinished basement gains so much value when deemed off limits 23 hours a day. I wish it was always this easy to entertain them.
Here is a quick video of them goofing around. Dad left out a backpack, and it became the central hiding zone for that play session (shhhh…don’t tell him…lol).

That looks like so much fun. We don’t have a basement ’cause we live in an apartment, but sometimes when we visit The Old Man and Woman, we’re allowed to play in their basement and it’s super fun!
I love going to the room below…I don’t get to go there very often cuz mom says there’s all sorts of stuff I can get into trouble!!! But it’s one of my favorite places to go!!!

Great video. Stange how maning something off limits makes it that much more interesting.
